Emergency personal and fire teams rush toward the Burnside fire through the early hours of the night, Monday, Sept. 1, 2008. The wildland fire burned 225 acres in Alpine County, Calif., South of Lake Tahoe. Though no structures were destroyed in the fire, an air tanker crashed shortly after dropping fire retardant, killing the three crew members inside. A total of 27 crew members have been killed in crashes involving firefighting air tankers since 1991.
